Eric's Summer Project - Part 16

(9/8/00):  Decided to go ahead and put the carpeting in the trunk...  I ordered standard loop, black (made by sewfine), through www.aircooled.net and I am VERY pleased with the stuff!  It did need several modifications to really fit good though (that's because I have a few "extras").  It needed slits cut, so I could fit it over the strut support flange.  It wasn't that big of a deal, I just lined it up, sliced with a fresh razor, then melted the first 'row' of carpet with a soldering gun (to help keep it from fraying), and then glued a piece of vinyl to the backside of the cut (so it wouldn't rip larger).

This is what the trunk looked like before...

This is what it looked like after!  It was a tad bit bright outside, so I may update this pic with a better one soon.  I couldn't get the carpet to go over the fuel filler neck, so I made it go under.  It doesn't look perfect, but for a trunk it looks pretty darn good!  Now I don't wanna' put my ratty box filled with tools in there.  I also have another fresh air cover, that needs to be media blasted and painted (as you can see, the current one was 'modified' by someone; looks like it was for A/C which the car no longer has).  And I also need to get rid of that ugly Fuel recovery unit (I don't have the charcoal canister anymore, so no need for the ugly plastic recovery unit).

The carpet isn't in "permanently" because I still need to get to some of the wiring, and whatnot...  Even when it comes time to put it in for good, I only need a few dabs of contact cement.

Stay tuned for part 17!!!!
