Eric's Summer Project - Part 11

(8/26-27/00):  Got the disc brakes finished, and tightened everything down to specs, on the front end EXCEPT for the center tie rod, and pitman arm.  I am still waiting on a few bushings, before I want to tighten them up.  Got the car turned around, and now I'm working on the rear suspension!

A few people wanted to see what the disc brakes looked like once the Empi 8 spokes were on, so here they are (remember, I opted NOT to paint the caliper, as I didn't have to 'clearance' it):

Had the drum off the rear, right after I put the car on jackstands (no I didn't paint the brake shoes, they were already like that)...

After a while, this is what it looked like.  I removed the backing plate, Half shaft from the tranny, shock, brake line, parking brake cable, etc.  Did the same thing on the other side.  I have a suspicion that I may have to replace the diagonal arm on the left side (the bearing just slid out, which makes me think that at one time, the bearing froze and spun inside the diagonal arm, and no one fixed it... They just put another bearing in.  Earlier, I had checked the mounting surface of the drum to see how far 'it moved', and it was VERY wobbly.  Then I temporarily replaced the drum, and I got the same numbers!  It just so happens, that this is the SAME side of the car, with the possibly trashed diagonal arm...

'Tis it for now... School starts tomorrow, so progress is going to be a little slower for the next week (or two... or three...).

Stay tuned for PART 8!
