Eric's Summer Project - Part 31

(12/4-7/00):  Getting within a half a week of being "done"; or so I think...  I got around to re-adjusting the camber on the rear tires.  I ended up having to adjust the springplate 2 notches (about 1.5 degrees).  And now the rear tires are within a half of a degree of the proper setting.  I also got around to making some steel fuel tubing for the engine compartment (didn't want all the hose to rub).  And I also got the exhaust stripped and painted with Por-20 'black velvet'; Then I had it baked at 400 deg. F. for 2 hours.  I also got my oil leak fixed (coming from the oil pump), and I got the exhaust re-installed, AND I got a call from my powdercoating shop saying my bumper was done early!  So I got it installed, and the lights on, and hooked up!

Here's what it takes to adjust the rear camber...  After several tries on each side, I got it just right.

These are what the upper baja bumper mounts look like (AFTER they have been powdercoated).  I made these myself out of thicker than standard steel stock, and pipe stock (the ones that come with the bumper a 'kiddie-toys').  Oh, that thing to the left of the mount is my Baja CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition), it does some really cool things for my engine :-)  You can get one for your VW at www.aircooled.net

Here's what the lower mount looks like... As you can see, I opted to use the 'other' bolt (NOT the tranny bolt).  I also made these Heavy duty units.

Here it is in all its glory!  It has been powdercoated "nebula black" and then clearcoated on top of that.  its REALLY shiny! I also got those 4 new taillights hooked up :-)  Its bright...

Another view...  In this pic, you can make out the steel fuel line that goes up to the carbs.

And yet another view.  In this pic, you can make out the exhaust that has been freshly coated with Por-20 (withstands up to 1200 deg. F.!!) "black velvet".  I didn't have the time to run it through a spray gun, so I just brushed it on...  Up close you can see the brushmarks, but WHO CARES, its prolly the only VW in NM WITHOUT a rusting out header!!

Stay tuned for part 32...  Oh, wait... there may not even be a part 32 :-)  ITS NEARLY DONE!
